RSV MAT 05:19 Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

RSV MAT 05:20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

RSV MAT 05:21 "You have heard that it was said to the men of old, 'You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.'

RSV MAT 05:22 But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be liable to the hell of fire.

RSV MAT 05:23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,

RSV MAT 05:24 leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

RSV MAT 05:25 Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison;

RSV MAT 05:26 truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.

RSV MAT 05:27 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.'

RSV MAT 05:28 But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

RSV MAT 05:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.

RSV MAT 05:30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

RSV MAT 05:31 "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.'

RSV MAT 05:32 But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

RSV MAT 05:33 "Again you have heard that it was said to the men of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.'

RSV MAT 05:34 But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,

RSV MAT 05:35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

RSV MAT 05:36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.

RSV MAT 05:37 Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No;' anything more than this comes from evil.

RSV MAT 05:38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'

RSV MAT 05:39 But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also;

RSV MAT 05:40 and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well;

RSV MAT 05:41 and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.

RSV MAT 05:42 Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you.

RSV MAT 05:43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'

RSV MAT 05:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

RSV MAT 05:45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

RSV MAT 05:46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

RSV MAT 05:47 And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?

RSV MAT 05:48 You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

RSV MAT 06:01 "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

RSV MAT 06:02 "Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

RSV MAT 06:03 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

RSV MAT 06:04 so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

RSV MAT 06:05 "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

RSV MAT 06:06 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

RSV MAT 06:07 "And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

RSV MAT 06:08 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

RSV MAT 06:09 Pray then like this: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

RSV MAT 06:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

RSV MAT 06:11 Give us this day our daily bread;

RSV MAT 06:12 And forgive us our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors;

RSV MAT 06:13 And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

RSV MAT 06:14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you;

RSV MAT 06:15 but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

RSV MAT 06:16 "And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

RSV MAT 06:17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,

RSV MAT 06:18 that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

RSV MAT 06:19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal,

RSV MAT 06:20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.

RSV MAT 06:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

RSV MAT 06:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light;

RSV MAT 06:23 but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

RSV MAT 06:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

RSV MAT 06:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

RSV MAT 06:26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

RSV MAT 06:27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?

RSV MAT 06:28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin;

RSV MAT 06:29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

RSV MAT 06:30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith?

RSV MAT 06:31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'

RSV MAT 06:32 For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

RSV MAT 06:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.

RSV MAT 06:34 "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.

RSV MAT 07:01 "Judge not, that you be not judged.

RSV MAT 07:02 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.

RSV MAT 07:03 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

RSV MAT 07:04 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?

RSV MAT 07:05 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

RSV MAT 07:06 "Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you.

RSV MAT 07:07 "Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

RSV MAT 07:08 For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

RSV MAT 07:09 Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

RSV MAT 07:10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?

RSV MAT 07:11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

RSV MAT 07:12 So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

RSV MAT 07:13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

RSV MAT 07:14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

RSV MAT 07:15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

RSV MAT 07:16 You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?

RSV MAT 07:17 So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit.

RSV MAT 07:18 A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

RSV MAT 07:19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

RSV MAT 07:20 Thus you will know them by their fruits.

RSV MAT 07:21 "Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

RSV MAT 07:22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?'

RSV MAT 07:23 And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.'

RSV MAT 07:24 "Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock;

RSV MAT 07:25 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

RSV MAT 07:26 And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand;

RSV MAT 07:27 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it."

RSV MAT 08:04 "See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to the people."

RSV MAT 09:02 "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven."

RSV MAT 09:05 For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise and walk?'

RSV MAT 09:06 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" . . . "Rise, take up your bed and go home."

RSV MAT 09:12 "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

RSV MAT 09:13 Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

RSV MAT 09:15 "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

RSV MAT 09:16 And no one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made.

RSV MAT 09:17 Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; if it is, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved."

RSV MAT 09:22 "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well."

RSV MAT 09:24 "Depart; for the girl is not dead but sleeping."

RSV MAT 09:28 "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"

RSV MAT 09:29 "According to your faith be it done to you."

RSV MAT 10:07 And preach as you go, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'

RSV MAT 10:08 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay.

RSV MAT 10:09 Take no gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts,

RSV MAT 10:10 no bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the laborer deserves his food.

RSV MAT 10:11 And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it, and stay with him until you depart.

RSV MAT 10:12 As you enter the house, salute it.

RSV MAT 10:13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

RSV MAT 10:14 And if any one will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town.

RSV MAT 10:15 Truly, I say to you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomor'rah than for that town.

RSV MAT 10:16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

RSV MAT 10:17 Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues,

RSV MAT 10:18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles.

RSV MAT 10:19 When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour;

RSV MAT 10:20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

RSV MAT 10:21 Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;

RSV MAT 10:22 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

RSV MAT 10:23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next; for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel, before the Son of man comes.

RSV MAT 10:24 "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master;

RSV MAT 10:25 it is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Be-el'zebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.

RSV MAT 10:26 "So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.

RSV MAT 10:27 What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops.

RSV MAT 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

RSV MAT 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's will.

RSV MAT 10:30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

RSV MAT 10:31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

RSV MAT 10:32 So every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven;

RSV MAT 10:33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

RSV MAT 10:34 "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.

RSV MAT 10:35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;

RSV MAT 10:36 and a man's foes will be those of his own household.

RSV MAT 10:37 He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

RSV MAT 10:38 and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

RSV MAT 10:39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

RSV MAT 10:40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.

RSV MAT 10:41 He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward, and he who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

RSV MAT 10:42 And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."

RSV MAT 11:04 "Go and tell John what you hear and see:

RSV MAT 11:05 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

RSV MAT 11:06 And blessed is he who takes no offense at me."

RSV MAT 11:07 "What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?

RSV MAT 11:08 Why then did you go out? To see a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who wear soft raiment are in kings' houses.

RSV MAT 11:09 Why then did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

RSV MAT 11:10 This is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.'

RSV MAT 11:11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

RSV MAT 11:12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force.

RSV MAT 11:13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John;

RSV MAT 11:14 and if you are willing to accept it, he is Eli'jah who is to come.

RSV MAT 11:15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

RSV MAT 11:16 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places and calling to their playmates,

RSV MAT 11:17 'We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.'

RSV MAT 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon;'

RSV MAT 11:19 the Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds."

RSV MAT 11:21 "Woe to you, Chora'zin! woe to you, Beth-sa'ida! for if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

RSV MAT 11:22 But I tell you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.

RSV MAT 11:23 And you, Caper'na-um, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

RSV MAT 11:24 But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you."

RSV MAT 11:25 "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes;

RSV MAT 11:26 yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.

RSV MAT 11:27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

RSV MAT 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

RSV MAT 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

RSV MAT 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

RSV MAT 12:03 "Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him:

RSV MAT 12:04 how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

RSV MAT 12:05 Or have you not read in the law how on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are guiltless?

RSV MAT 12:06 I tell you, something greater than the temple is here.

RSV MAT 12:07 And if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

RSV MAT 12:08 For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath."

RSV MAT 12:11 "What man of you, if he has one sheep and it falls into a pit on the sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?

RSV MAT 12:12 Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the sabbath."

RSV MAT 12:13 "Stretch out your hand."

RSV MAT 12:25 "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand;

RSV MAT 12:26 and if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?

RSV MAT 12:27 And if I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

RSV MAT 12:28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

RSV MAT 12:29 Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house.

RSV MAT 12:30 He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

RSV LUK 12:04 "I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

RSV LUK 12:18 And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

RSV LUK 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.'

RSV LUK 12:20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?'

RSV LUK 12:21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

RSV LUK 12:22 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat, nor about your body, what you shall put on.

RSV LUK 12:23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.

RSV LUK 12:24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!

RSV LUK 12:29 And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be of anxious mind.

RSV LUK 12:30 For all the nations of the world seek these things; and your Father knows that you need them.

RSV LUK 12:31 Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things shall be yours as well.

RSV LUK 12:39 But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into.

RSV LUK 12:42 "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time?

RSV LUK 12:43 Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing.

RSV LUK 12:44 Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.

RSV LUK 12:45 But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,

RSV LUK 12:46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the unfaithful.

RSV LUK 12:47 And that servant who knew his master's will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating.

RSV LUK 12:48 But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.

RSV LUK 12:49 "I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled!

RSV LUK 13:06 "A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.

RSV LUK 13:07 And he said to the vinedresser, 'Lo, these three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down; why should it use up the ground?'

RSV LUK 13:08 And he answered him, 'Let it alone, sir, this year also, till I dig about it and put on manure.

RSV LUK 13:09 And if it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.'"

RSV LUK 14:05 "Which of you, having a son or an ox that has fallen into a well, will not immediately pull him out on a sabbath day?"

RSV LUK 14:08 "When you are invited by any one to a marriage feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest a more eminent man than you be invited by him;

RSV LUK 14:09 and he who invited you both will come and say to you, 'Give place to this man,' and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.

RSV LUK 14:10 But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher;' then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you.

RSV LUK 14:12 "When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and you be repaid.

RSV LUK 14:17 and at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for all is now ready.'

RSV LUK 14:18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.'

RSV LUK 14:19 And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused.'

RSV LUK 14:20 And another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'

RSV LUK 14:21 So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, 'Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.'

RSV LUK 14:22 And the servant said, 'Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.'

RSV LUK 14:23 And the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.

RSV LUK 14:24 For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.'"

RSV LUK 14:26 "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

RSV LUK 14:27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

RSV LUK 14:28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?

RSV LUK 14:29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,

RSV LUK 14:30 saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.'

RSV LUK 14:31 Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

RSV LUK 14:32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace.

RSV LUK 14:33 So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.

RSV LUK 14:34 "Salt is good; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored?

RSV LUK 14:35 It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill; men throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

RSV LUK 15:04 "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it?

RSV LUK 15:05 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

RSV LUK 15:06 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.'

RSV LUK 15:07 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

RSV LUK 15:08 "Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?

RSV LUK 15:09 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.'

RSV LUK 15:10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

RSV LUK 15:12 and the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of property that falls to me.' And he divided his living between them.

RSV LUK 15:13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living.

RSV LUK 15:14 And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want.

RSV LUK 15:15 So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine.

RSV LUK 15:16 And he would gladly have fed on the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything.

RSV LUK 15:17 But when he came to himself he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger!

RSV LUK 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you;

RSV LUK 15:19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants."'

RSV LUK 15:20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.

RSV LUK 15:21 And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

RSV LUK 15:22 But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet;

RSV LUK 15:23 and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry;

RSV LUK 15:24 for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to make merry.

RSV LUK 15:25 "Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

RSV LUK 15:26 And he called one of the servants and asked what this meant.

RSV LUK 15:27 And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.'

RSV LUK 15:28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,

RSV LUK 15:29 but he answered his father, 'Lo, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command; yet you never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends.

RSV LUK 15:30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!'

RSV LUK 15:31 And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.

RSV LUK 15:32 It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'"

RSV LUK 16:01 "There was a rich man who had a steward, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his goods.

RSV LUK 16:02 And he called him and said to him, 'What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.'

RSV LUK 16:03 And the steward said to himself, 'What shall I do, since my master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.

RSV LUK 16:04 I have decided what to do, so that people may receive me into their houses when I am put out of the stewardship.'

RSV LUK 16:05 So, summoning his master's debtors one by one, he said to the first, 'How much do you owe my master?'

RSV LUK 16:06 He said, 'A hundred measures of oil.' And he said to him, 'Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.'

RSV LUK 16:07 Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' He said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'

RSV LUK 16:08 The master commended the dishonest steward for his shrewdness; for the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.

RSV LUK 16:09 And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal habitations.

RSV LUK 16:10 "He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much.

RSV LUK 16:25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Laz'arus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.

RSV LUK 16:26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.'

RSV LUK 16:27 And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house,

RSV LUK 16:28 for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.'

RSV LUK 16:29 But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'
